Alligation
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
An alligation is when an object imbued with virtue comes into contact with the thing it is intended to magically affect; if it is hung about the neck or body of the intended it is called a suspension. The principle of alligation is quite similar to Frazer's "Law of Contagion", in that it states that when a thing filled with virtue comes into contact with another thing, its virtue passes into that thing & influences it. Examples of alligation are the horseshoe nailed above a threshold.
