An animal concretion is a stone found in some part of an animal's body & contains the magical essence, or virtue of the animal in concentrated form. These stones can be worn as an alligation, suspension or amulet, may be dipped in philtres to impart their power, or may be ground down and added to philtres & powders etc.

The stone is usually obtained by either killing the animal, or finding one freshly dead, and burying it in an ant-hill or leaving it suspended in a chimney until the stone fell out. These stones are normally named after the animal from which they come, such as the toadstone.
