The Ant in Magic
The ant is a powerful ingredient in love magic & is also used in plasters & ointments to stop bleeding. A lump of earth from an ant-hill is also reputed to cure poisoned persons when fastened on their arm (as an alligation) & given to them in water to drink as a potion.
Ants are typically used in the magical arts to obtain bones, stones & seeds for use in the witch's work. The dead animal or plant is buried in, or placed atop, the ant-hill and left until all that is left is the required part. It is held by many magical practitioners that through the devouring of the extraneous flesh, all that remains is the purified & concentrated essence of that plant or animal.
