Atropos is the Greek Moirae, or Fate, having influence over one's death. The name Atropos is Greek for "inexorable" or "inevitable", literally "unturning". She wields the shears with which she cuts the thread of fate, thereby deciding when a person is to die; her Roman equiavalent is Morta, meaning "Death". The word Atropos also gives us atropine, which is a poisonous and bitter alkaloid found in belladonna and other related plants, and atrophy, meaning to weaken and waste away.
