Charm
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
The original meaning of a charm is a spoken or sung verse, prayer or incantation designed to have a magical affect. It is especially one that pleases the senses of either the charmer or the thing to be charmed. The association with magical trinkets is a much later and popularist meaning of the word - dating to about the 1800's.
The word "charm" derives from the Latin canere, meaning "to sing".
