Ditch
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
A Ditch is a channel dug out for a specific purpose, normally for drainage, to channel water, or as fortification, hence their use in hill-forts. In their defensive aspect they are intended to be an obstacle, designed to slow down invaders. In Medieval fortification, a ditch was often constructed in front of a defensive wall to hinder sapping and escalade. When filled with water, such a defensive ditch is called a moat.

Usage in Witchcraft
It is also sometimes used in witchcraft as a term denoting the outer bounds of the witch's circle or other enclosure, thereby denoting a protective boundary.
