There are many types of doll used in the witch arts, nearly all based on effigy magic. The doll has many names, including poppet, mommet, a picture and dagyde.

Chimney Doll
A chimney doll is a poppet constructed to protect the household from evil, ill luck, malevolent magic and so forth. They are normally placed about the hearth or in the chimney, this being considered the heart of the home (it perhaps relates also to the notion that many things might enter and leave the house through a chimney).

The Doll As A Familiar House
Sometimes a doll is fashioned to house a familiar spirit, or similar. The doll is usually constructed with features appropriate to its nature & the purpose it is intended to be put to.
