Enchant

(Redirected from Enchantment)
To enchant is to make an incantation over something or someone so as to fascinate or affect them; as such it is related to the arts of charming, galdor, spells and so forth. Enchantment differs in some ways in that it specifically relates to the arts of singing or chanting.
The word is from the Middle English enchanten, which derives from the Old French enchanter and ultimately the Latin incantre, meaning to utter an incantation or magic spell over. Incantre is a composite of in, meaning "upon" or "into", and cantare, meaning "to sing". Cantare has its origins in the Indo-European root *kan, meaning "to sing".
