Hairy tether

A Hairy tether is a rope made of hair drawn from the tail of ever cow within reach, and with this device a witch usually operated by the method known as Drawing the Tether by which tugging at the hairy tether he/she would charm away the substance of milk from their neighbors cows. The witch of the Carse of Gowrie, it is said, was seen pulling at a hairy tether along which streams of milk were flowing, and heard repeating these words:--

                                  Mare's milk and Deer's milk,
                                  And every beast that bears milk
                                  Atbween St.Johnston and Dundee,
                                  Come a' to me, come a' to me
