Hermes Stones
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
A Hermes Stone is a depiction of Priapus, normally a wooden or stone block or pole, marked only with a bearded head and phallus. They were normally placed at crossroads, borders, and boundaries, and thus marked those places that were inbetween. They are associated with Hermes, a God of travel who is closely associated with cairns. In one Greek legend Hera put Hermes on trial for slaying her favorite servant, Argus. The other gods acted as jury, and declared their verdict by throwing pebbles at either Hermes or Hera, depending upon whom they thought was in the right. Hermes argued so skillfully that he ended up buried under a heap of pebbles, and this was the first cairn.
