There is an old story that a group of smugglers in Wiltshire were being chased by customs men and hid their contraband of brandy in a pond. When the customs men caught up with the smugglers they asked what they were up to, and they replied that the Moon had fallen into the pond and they were raking it out. The customs men laughed at the simple peasant ignorance of these folk, and left them to it.
