Potion
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
A potion is a liquid concocted of various ingredients and intended to be imbibed so as to produce a physical or magical effect, and such are the province of witches, warlocks, sorcerers, alchemists and wizards. The purposes of a potion can be many-fold, such as for bewitchment, maleficience, veneficia, healing, or love potions (more commonly called philtres). Another famous concoction sometimes used in witchcraft is the flying potion. Such potions may or may not be brewed within a cauldron.
Potions may include all sorts of ingredients, such as herbs, powdered bone, body parts, animal parts, blood, fats, alcohol and so forth. They are sometimes drunk from special vessels, such as a 'cup' made from the dome of the skull or a particular wooden goblet. The word potion comes from the Latin potionis, meaning 'beverage', 'potion' or 'poison'.
