Human Skulls
A human skull from a family memeber was often used in rites to represent the "First one" i.e. the first initiate, either of the Red thread or of witches coven. Also sometimes used in Necromancy to personify death or as a means of communication with spirits of the ancestors. Human Skulls are also used occasionally as Spirit Houses for familiar spirits or charm holders.Human skulls which are used in this way are seen in the museum of witchcraft.
Horse Skulls
Horse skulls were known to be hidden or buried at four corners of the home to act as protection against unwanted spirits, spells or bad luck. Another tool which is used in folk magic involving a horse skull is the niding pole, which is a cursing staff of the ancient Scandanavian cursing custom.
