Soul
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
The exact definition of a soul is hard to set in stone, for like anything related to the realm of spirit it means many things to many people. However, sawol, the Old English word from which soul comes, refers to the spiritual and emotional part of a person, that is to say their "animate existence", which is normally considered immortal. Some believe that the Germanic *saiwalo, from which sawol comes, is related to *saiwaz, meaning "sea", alluding to the old belief in the sea being the stopping place of the soul between death and life (in some mythologies the same is said of ancestral souls residing in rivers).
