A Talisman or amulet an object intended to bring good luck and/or protection to its owner, or otherwise produce miraculous effects. The French 'talisman' comes from the Arabic tilsam, from Middle Greek telesma, meaning consecration (it derives from telein meaning to initiate into the mysteries).
