Trushul
From Traditional Witchcraft Wiki Project
Trushul is the name the Romany gypsies use for the 'cross', and Nigel Jackson relates that it is a trident used by gypsies to stir their magic potions.
Trushul is synonymous with the word trishul, the trident of Shiva, which some believe lends credence to the theory that whilst in India the Roma people belonged to the Hindu religion.
The Trishul is the trident carried by the Hindu god Shiva. It is thought to suggest the three Gunas and signify Shiva's control over the three aspects of creation, sustenance and destruction. Some believe these qualities to be suggestive of the principles of past, present and future, and thereby reminiscent of other similar trinities in various European cultures such as The Fates, Norns, Parcae, and the Moirae.
