Urine was used by the 16th and 17th century Cunning Men to diagnose and cure illnesses attributed to witchcraft. The act of boiling a bottle of the bewitched person's urine, so allowing the fire to break the spell, is an old way of breaking malevolent magic, and such is an adaptation of the witch bottle. Another counter-charm involves obtaining the witch's urine and burying it in a sealed vessel, which will prevent the witch from being able to urinate until she breaks the spell or dies. The basis of these beliefs is that urine contains the vital essence of a person, and so like blood, saliva, tears, semen, and so forth, these are called a "HadLock" and may be used to have an effect on a person.Much like how today we call "DNA" works.
