Worship

To worship something is to give it reverence, but originally implied that such was demanded of a thing, deriving as it does from the Old English worðscip, this being a "condition of worthiness, honour, renown". It is a composite of weorð, meaning "worthy", and -scipe, meaning "a condition of being"; it is to be worthy and deserving of merit.
